My Project
I teach an amazing group of first graders who come to school each day full of energy, curiosity, and a genuine love for learning. They are truly a joy to teach!
Phonics instruction is a critical part of helping young students become confident, independent readers.
To support rigorous and engaging phonics instruction throughout the year, I am requesting materials that will make learning both effective and fun.
One key resource I'm hoping to bring into the classroom is a Giant Elkonin Box Mat Set. This interactive tool helps students build phonemic awareness—the foundation of reading—by allowing them to physically segment and blend sounds using large, color-coded boxes. It makes abstract concepts concrete and keeps learning active and fun.
In addition, I’m requesting sets of decodable guided reading books that align with our phonics instruction. These texts give students meaningful opportunities to practice newly learned skills in context, boosting their confidence and fluency as emerging readers. Each book is carefully designed to reinforce specific phonics patterns while also building comprehension.
Together, these resources will not only strengthen literacy skills but also create a joyful, supportive reading environment where every student can thrive.
