My Students
I am a first grade teacher in an urban public school in Illinois. My students are eager to learn and enjoy challenging and engaging activities. Although we have faced academic challenges during the Covid pandemic, my students continue to persevere in their academic studies. I love the fact that my scholars are empowered as they take control of their learning utilizing online platforms such as Jamboard, Flipgrid, and Padlet.
Our day begins with phonological awareness activities which the students thoroughly enjoy.
They realize that phonics and phonemic skills are the foundation for reading and writing. As they engage in various activities such as singing, clapping, rhyming, and saying sounds and words, the skills are being reinforced in a fun and exciting way.
My Project
A white board and markers will enable students to become actively engaged as they write letters while "sounding them out." Students are currently writing on lined paper with a pencil and when they make a mistake pencil erasures take too long. The students are losing valuable time with this method. However, the white board with the colorful markers with erasers would save a lot of time.
Students will enjoy using the attractive markers and sleek white boards to make letters, form words, and write sentences.
The writing center would take on new life as these scholars engage in writing on their boards. Whether “sounding out” the alphabet as they write letters or writing sentences from those words, students will be on the road to reading.
