Sorting it Out in Elementary Band!

Help me give my students a sheet music library that they can easily and independently access without interrupting the band lesson.

My Project

My elementary band students are excited to learn and grow every lesson. We run a 6-day rotation, which means band students only have between 26-29 lessons throughout the entire school year. This makes every second of in-class instruction essential to the musical growth of my beginning band students. The first two years on an instrument can be the most challenging, as students are learning and retaining the basics that they will build on for the rest of their musical careers. With so much on their minds, I want them to be able to focus on the limited in-class instruction that we do have, without interruption. This is why our classroom needs an organized sheet music library for both 4th and 5th grade, where students can find extra copies of their music independently.

When music is not easily accessible, students begin to lose precious instructional time.

At the beginning of class, students often ask for extra copies of sheet music. Without an organized and accessible music library, I have to find the copies and then give those copies to the students. This is happening while the other students are losing instructional time. If we have an organized library, students will know where to go if they need a copy. In addition to this, I plan to select a responsible student librarian in each lesson group to maintain their portion of the library.

The organizers that I selected for this project are heavy-duty and will last our program a long time. I have seen the wooden version of this product need replaced within 5 years.

If students forget their music folder at home, this will provide them with a simple and independent fix to this problem. Thank you for considering a donation to our elementary band room!
