My students are striving to be their greatest self by mastering 2nd grade literacy concepts.
My students come from under privileged homes and require additional support materials.
They are frequently surrounded by negative environmental influences that do not promote positive educational growth. While these 24 students may have home life challenges, it does not stop their desire to learn more and become better academic scholars. They are thirsty to read authentic text options that will expand their knowledge.
My Project
Imagine being taught a new concept in literacy and only practicing that skill while your teaching is talking. How can you ever gain ownership of that skill? That is all about to change for my students. Having the Comprehension Concept Teaching Center will allow students to put their learning into action immediately. After teaching a lesson, students will be able to work in small groups to practice specific comprehension skills. During independent reading and intervention time, students will use extension activities and graphic organizer to apply the targeted skill to every text they read.
I am determined to help students to find a passion and love for reading.
Having these materials will allow students to practice different concepts that are imperative to ensure comprehension. Students increased engagement will help improve reading stamina, comprehension, and confidence.
