This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
A calming corner is an essential part of any kindergarten classroom. The calming corner provides a safe, reliable space for my students to use when they need help regulating their emotions. Having a variety of books and materials available encourages students to learn how to regulate their emotions.
Being able to regulate their emotions and use a variety of strategies sets up learners for lifelong success.
I have requested a variety of manipulatives that will give my students a choice in how they need to regulate their emotions. The voice recording buttons and posters will help to give my students direction and the ability to use the center independently.
In addition to our calm-down corner, our bucket filler materials will be used to teach students kindness and positive social interactions. This initiative supports social-emotional learning by promoting empathy and encouraging a supportive classroom community, helping students understand the impact of their actions on others' feelings.
In the past, my students have enjoyed a safe, quiet place to express their feelings. I am grateful to continue providing this space for my students while offering them new materials to express themselves.
