it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our class lives and learns in the Arizona desert. We love exploring our desert ecosystems and feel lucky to have the saguaros and Sonoran wildlife that surrounds us but as you might imagine it gets hot. To help keep our students safe in the heat we teach them importance of staying hydrated and drinking lots of water as we play and explore.
The Covid-19 pandemic caused our school to remove all drinking founds and replace them with bottle filler to prevent the spread of germs.
While this is great for keeping students safe from bacteria and viruses it does create a bit of a barrier for our students to access drinking water. If students don't have a bottle to fill, they don't have a way to drink from the bottle fillers. I always encourage students to bring a bottle if they have one but some students don't have water bottles and families may struggle to supply durable, reusable water bottles for their students.
This project is intended to provide a kid-proof, reusable water bottle for every student in my class. Providing every student a new, reusable water bottle would provide them sanitary access to drinking water while at school. I've also added a few clothing items to keep in our classroom to provide to students when needed. I want our classroom to have the resources my students need so they can feel safe and ready to learn.
