My Students

Good things come in small packages! At least that's what my elementary students will experience, when they have the chance to learn how to play the ukulele! My kids need easy-to-learn instruments in to which they can invest themselves, and I want to give them an unforgettable musical experience.

I have (I think) the best kids in the world.

I teach approximately 600 students at a Title 1 school, where over 55% of our student population needs financial assistance. Our school is a public school, and in spite of being economically challenged, our students achievement scores are very high overall. However, many of my kids do not have the chance to take part in experiences outside of the academic classroom that would enrich their lives. The only "arts" class they receive is music.

My Project

I am requesting 10 ukuleles with bags. These ukuleles are inexpensive enough to purchase a large amount, yet sturdy enough to last through many years of use by the students. The ukuleles are from the Ibanez company, so I am certain we will have quality instruments. They come with gig bags, so we can properly store and transport the instruments without fear of breaking them. I believe these ukuleles will change my students' lives for the better by providing an outlet for them to begin learning their first stringed instrument. I believe the skill set learned by playing the ukulele can be transferred to another stringed instrument like the guitar or even bass.

There are many worthy projects to fund.

Educators will always need money. However, I hope you will consider donating to this project because it has the chance to give our students who struggle in the classroom a sense of self worth and success. This is why "related arts" classes are so important to our students today. They need so desperately to feel and experience life from an aesthetic point of view.
