This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Words cannot describe the drastic impact this crisis has had on my students these past several weeks and will continue to have in the coming months. They had so much to look forward to including class trips, 8th grade dance/graduation, and saying a final goodbye to their classmates they've been with since Kindergarten. Now they are learning from their bedrooms with limited technology and unstable internet. I can tell this is hard on them by the messages I get, whether it's just saying "Hi," "When are we going back?" or "I miss the team." The hardest part for me is not seeing them in person everyday to build strong relationships, serve as a positive role model, and provide opportunities.

Help me brighten my students' day and bring a smile to their faces during these dark times.

Growing up in a neighborhood riddled with gangs and crime, I worry about these kids every day. I want to know they are safe, I want them to know teachers/coaches like me still believe in them, and I want them to know we are still here. Our job goes beyond the four walls of the classroom, please help me keep their young spirits alive.

My Project

During this difficult and uncertain time it's easy for kids to lose faith and have lots of doubt. By providing them with writing tools, energy bars, and a soccer ball at their feet, it will help them keep their minds on track and maintain and improve their soccer skills at home until we are back on the field together. It's important they keep up with their writing, and once they all get their soccer balls, as most families cannot afford a ball of their own, I will hold virtual training sessions. Additionally, I have included soccer socks for our 5 graduating 8th Graders so they are ready for their high school soccer career.

All kids need is a little help, and somebody who believes in them.

We all get knocked down from time to time, but that doesn't take you away from your journey, it doesn't take away your dream. I want to give my kids something that will bring them comfort and hope; I want them to know that good things can still happen in the midst of chaos. I know my student athletes, receiving these simple items will mean the world to them. Children are great imitators, let's do something great to imitate.
