Sometimes Things Are Black And White

My students need a printer and an extra toner cartridge in our classroom so that I can modify work and print it for immediate use during lessons.

My Students

Sometimes just a little means so much! A black and white printer in my classroom would allow me to instantly alter worksheets and tasks to help all students achieve. It's a small change that will have a HUGE impact.

I work with an extremely diverse population in a high poverty district, including special education and ESL (English as a second language,) students.

They are a wonderful group of children who want to achieve and feel as successful as their classmates. They have very different needs and learning styles. Because of the variety of students, I often need to differentiate tasks according to their different strengths and weaknesses, and for the special education students, according to their state mandated Individualized Educational Plans. These students can, and will, learn with the appropriate materials and delivery of instruction.

My Project

I am requesting a black and white laser printer, along with an extra toner cartridge. Quite often "teachable moments" that aren't expected occur during the teaching process in small groups, especially when working with students that have special needs. Adjustments on worksheets is a simple, yet powerful way to have a positive impact. For example, if a student is struggling, adding a graphic organizer might be just the extra push they need to be successful. This may seem simple, and is when you have a printer. For the past three years I have been without a printer due to lack of funding. There is a printer available in the computer lab, but I can't leave the classroom to get the printout. Unfortunately, due to security issues and a fob system, students are not able to go to the computer lab to pick up items printed during the day, and the "teachable moment" could be lost!

Please consider donating to this basic project.

So many of my students find much that is being required in the new "Common Core" curriculum to be overwhelming. A printer will allow me to make some small tweaks that will have a BIG impact!
