Sometimes It's the Little Things That Really Count!
Help me give my students the basics like paper, ink, paintbrushes and sticky notes, so that learning can get off to the right start from day one of school!
My students are amazing kids who face many challenges both at home and at school. My students all have various disabilities, but they don't let their disabilities hold them back.
All of my students are unique, but one thing is the same in each of them: they love to learn!
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and face many challenges before even entering our school. We work together every day to overcome those challenges and reach new heights. I work with about 75 special education students every week, reaching kids with various disabilities. My students love to move, explore and play.
My Project
There are just some things that every classroom has to have. It's different for every classroom, every grade and every school district, but these things really are the necessities. In our room, full of some very special kids, we just can't learn without lamination, Velcro, ink, sticky notes or paper!
For my special learners, every lesson must be individualized and accessible.
This means that we laminate almost everything from visual schedules to writing activities so we can practice them more than once. We use lots and lots of Velcro so that my students who have difficulty writing can stick their answers instead of writing them. Ink and paper allows us to print individualized social stories to help my students with autism understand rules and expectations at school. Finally, sticky notes offer us a quick way to make visuals like "stop," "line up," "hi" to help my students who don't communicate verbally. These are the items we use every single day. They aren't glamorous or even super interesting but we just can't learn without them. Sometimes it's the little things that really count!
