Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One of the things that truly makes a student ready for learning is their ability to read and comprehend grade level texts. That is why I push not just reading in the classroom, but also at home for learning and pleasure. The more you read on level and challenging texts, the more you will improve your reading comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency.
That is why I want to reward my STAR READER of the week by letting them check out a class MINI loaded with a library of ibooks to pick from.
I have tons of epubs I have collected over the years, but my class Kindle is slowing down and becoming a bit obsolete.
If they had a new iPad mini, they could pick books to read as well as use Apple intelligence to quickly look up words they don't know, or other texts that go with what they are learning to gain more information.
I know that if they were to compete for "STAR READER" of the week, they would focus more on reading books, taking online comprehension tests, and pushing their reading levels higher and higher. This is super important, since many of my students are new arrivals and ENL students, or students with disabilities.
The school could also upload text-speech software that would enable my students with learning disabilities to scan their text and have it read to them so they can also use challenging, grade appropriate texts.
I hope you like my idea as much as I do and can help make this idea a reality for my fifth graders!
