My Project
We know that children develop language through play. We also know that children communicate about what they are interested in. As a speech-language pathologist, my job is to create a language-rich environment and motivating opportunities for communication. A child's potential - and voice - can be unlocked with activities and materials that stimulate creativity and simulate real life. My students are engaged and eager to express themselves!
With increased access to these engaging pretend and dramatic play experiences, my students will have more reasons to want to communicate.
Through open ended activities, such as ordering pizza at a restaurant, hosting a birthday party or acting out a scene from a book using the dollhouse, my students will learn new concepts and vocabulary and practice using language - verbally or with an augmentative communication device - to express their desires, ideas and feelings.
