Help me give my students something to do with their youthful energies. This includes LEGO sets and storage.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Graham's classroom raised $621

My Students
The diversity of our students is a prominent feature of each classroom. A city-wide gifted and talented school, but the only one whose demographics echo the ethnic, socioeconomic, cultural and linguistic tapestry of New York City, our students interact in ways which fortify the democracy they are growing up within and which they will themselves build. Their myriad beliefs and the diplomacies they practice encourage tolerance, empathy, and an ability to appreciate and represent values which depart from their own.
Our scholars, as we affectionately call them, travel from all over the city, often commuting over an hour each way on sleepy buses and noisy trains, to arrive at a special place where they hope to thrive.
They are funny, irreverent, kind-hearted, nerdy, and filled with soul. They are earnest and stand to benefit profoundly from your generosity.
My Project
Public education students are often in classes where they are expected to be still and calm while one teacher presents lessons. Many students are capable of this kind of sedentary schooling. Many students, just as eager and just as likely to improve the world, often find themselves struggling to constrain their youthful energies to pencil and paper.
To this end our school is offering a Creative Expression class to 2nd - 4th graders.
Having LEGOs to break up the day will mean children can solve physical problems with fun and familiar manipulatives. The teacher is an experienced professional who will use the materials to guide investigations into problems like, "Building a platform to hold a cup," "Make a model of your favorite virtue," and "Use LEGOs to build an imitation of Piet Mondrian and Joan Miro."
