Solving Crimes and Lighting Minds: Forensics in the Classroom

Help me give my students forensic science kits, UV flashlights, and barrier goggles so they can investigate realistic crime scenes and experience hands-on lab work like real forensic investigators.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are fascinated by the world of forensic science, and with the right tools, I can give them a learning experience that feels just like the real thing. I teach high school bilingual students in Rochester, and many of them have never had access to hands-on lab opportunities like this before.

This project will allow us to build realistic crime scenes in the classroom, giving students the chance to work in teams, examine evidence, and use authentic forensic techniques.

The Crime Scene Mega Kit will provide 40 students with the materials needed to investigate and analyze mock crime scenes. The UV flashlights and Bluestar forensic solution will allow students to simulate the discovery of hidden biological traces. The orange filter goggles make these simulations safe and exciting by helping them visualize the results clearly under UV light, just like professional forensic investigators.

These tools will be used across multiple units, from understanding DNA and bodily fluids to analyzing physical evidence and chemical reactions. Students will document their findings in lab journals and present their conclusions using evidence-based reasoning, reinforcing core science skills and literacy in both English and Spanish.

This project turns passive learning into an active, inquiry-based experience where students become the scientists. With your help, we’ll make the classroom a place of discovery, teamwork, and real-world application.
