This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am incredibly lucky to work with the students that I do! My students have a wonderful passion for music and incorporate it into their lives in and out of school. We are a Title I inner-city school, located in Southern Connecticut. Our school administration and staff are very supportive of our music program and roughly 20% our entire student body is enrolled in the band!

Every year our program grows, but unfortunately, our budget does not.

As our program grows, we are able to tackle more challenging pieces and perform throughout our community. Our budget covers essential supplies, but as a result, we are not able to grow our inventory as much as is needed.

My Project

Every year, our city hosts a solo showcase for all of the music students in our district. We also have the opportunities to send our students to the annual regional festival where the audition pieces are selected from this solo book set. Each year, more and more students show interest in these performances and it's important that they have the appropriate materials. I manage to purchase solo books from various places, but my budget and personal funds are limited.

This year, many of my students are performing or auditioning and these solo books will properly prepare them!

This is a big leap for my students' in their performance repertoire and these books will encourage positive growth in each and every one of them! These books will not just be used by those performing, but it will be a requirement for all of them to prepare a solo piece by the end of the school year.
