Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach Ap Statistics at a High School. In our school about 90% of our students get free or reduced lunch. The majority of our students are very respectful and willing to work hard in school. Our students come from low income families, yet they do not see themselves with disadvantages. At our school students know the importance of higher education and challenged themselves by taking Ap classes. My Ap statistics students work on projects every semester where they get to apply what they learn everyday in class.
My Project
Students in AP statistics will use the laptop to do research on energy sources. Everyday people get so much advertisement about solar energy through T.V, mail and phone service. They are bombarded with different solar company's trying to win over customers. Most of the time people are not well informed about the pro's and con's for solar energy vs. electricity.
Students in AP statistics will use laptop to do research on the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy vs electricity.
Some of the things students will research are: the cost, efficiency, materials and sources of energy. The research information will be used to create a pamphlet with the findings of the research to pass out on Course Fair day.
Each year our high school invites parents and community to come and look at what students are working in the classroom. Teachers and students get to showcase the projects their students have worked on. Parents who attend the Course Fair day will get a chance to receive a pamphlet on Advantages and Disadvantages of solar energy vs electricity so they can make an inform choice of what energy source they choose to use.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
