The goal of this project is to merge science curriculum with speech-language therapy objectives. My 4th graders are learning about the solar system. Students with limited verbal skills have difficulty understanding and expressing concepts clearly. In addition, many have difficulty reading and need materials on their independent reading level to support their abilities. Learning with concrete materials and books will help them in their understanding of outer space.
Your donation will provide students with communication impairments the tools needed to understand and talk about our solar system.
Materials in this project will help 4th graders explore the planets, sun, moon and stars by seeing photographs in books as well as manipulating a model of the planets. These materials will be used during activities in small groups to improve communication skills. Language, articulation, and fluency goals will be addressed while also working on grade level science vocabulary.
