My Students

Budget cuts you say? Help us turn adversity into opportunity. My students are going to begin a project that will result in having solar panels on our school building in midtown Manhattan in New York City!

As strange as this may sound I have not met my students yet!

The incoming class this fall is the founding class at UAG School of Technology. However, the demographics of our students run the gamut. We have students from all socioeconomic statuses, most of which qualify for reduced or free lunch. Our students have chosen to attend UAG because of the technology and project-based focus. I want to give them an immersive experience of investigating alternative energy and actually implementing solar energy collection in our school building. What an awesome first project for a newly founded school of technology!

My Project

The resources requested include a variety of kits, models and examples of the ways solar energy is collected and used in practical application. As students begin to learn the basics of alternative energy, these resources will allow them to tangibly explore the potential of solar energy with project based learning and hands-on experiences.

It is absolutely crucial to give students an opportunity to explore, learn and apply new knowledge that will help them develop practical skills for their time after high school.

This project is an ideal way to involve students in their community, have them practice practical skills useful across disciplines and see their hard work make an actual impact on their school and world.
