My Students

I teach Gifted and Talented enrichment classes for four different schools, in the grades first through fifth. Some of my students are non-English speakers, but their love for learning is apparent. My classes consist of learners from various socioeconomic statuses. Most of my students are diverse learners who are very excited about their enrichment class, where we can do hands-on activities in addition to the monotone intervention and repetition that usually takes place in the regular classrooms. This is usually the only time where they are allowedd to be creative, think outside the box and develop their talents.

My students do not always come from homes where they are told that their futures are bright and they can become anything they choose.

It is my mission to educate them about all the possibilities that await them and to nurture their talents.

My Project

The Solar Educational kit will allow my students to explore harnessing solar energy, focusing on photovoltaic cells. They will build models and conduct experiments to learn how solar cells transform light into electrical energy, and how motors and mechanical devices optimize work done by this energy. The students will also build different vehicles and machines to demonstrate how gears can convert and transform power for different needs using motors and the plasic wheels. My students final product- to present with all their research and learning - will be the car they design using the Solar Powered cars using the Carolina STEM challenge: Solar Car Design Kit.

"If we do not learn to eliminate waste and to be more productive and more efficient in the ways we use energy, then we will fall short of this goal.

But if we use our technological imagination, if we can work together to harness the light of the Sun, then we will succeed." Jimmy Carter

Your donation will allow my students to apply scientific principles to design, construct, and test a device that either minimizes or maximizes thermal energy transfer. My students will become inspired to think of ways to eliminate waste and be more efficient in the ways we use energy.

They will become divergent thinkers through engaging activities used to transform ideas into practical solutions.
