Help me give my students the once in a lifetime opportunity to safely experience the solar eclipse. Students have this day of school off, and my hope is that they can experience this event at home!
Last semester our classes learned about solar eclipses, and have had the solar eclipse date marked in their calendars for months. Since our state is getting total darkness, students have gotten the day off. By gifting students solar eclipse glasses, students will be able to not only experience the solar eclipse safely, but create a lifelong core memory. Without being gifted these glasses, there is a possibility that some students may not be able to experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This allows students to take their learning outside of classroom and into their own hands!
The goal for this project is to make students EXCITED about science.
This passion is something that I have been trying to instill in my students all year. I want learning to be fun and for kids to be excited to come to school! This is an incredible opportunity for them to get truly excited and make a connection to the classroom. My hope is that the solar eclipse glasses start conversations among students, and that they begin to ask questions. I am looking forward to them showing me pictures the next day and wanting to learn more about this topic (and others). Ultimately, I want this to be a conversation starter for students to ultimately build upon.
I whole-heartedly believe that my students will change the world. These are some of the most intelligent and capable kids I've ever met. They have high aspirations in life, and my goal is to give them the tools and support to reach them. If writing an essay to gift them solar eclipse glasses sets them on the path to becoming a scientist, then that is the least I can do. They are going to grow up and change the world, just like they have already changed mine.
