My Project
I teach a group of incredible 2nd and 3rd-grade students with autism in a self-contained classroom. Each student is unique, with their own strengths, challenges, and learning styles. They thrive when given visual supports, hands-on materials, and flexible seating options that cater to their sensory and academic needs. Many of my students have difficulty staying focused in traditional seating and require movement breaks or calming areas to self-regulate. Despite these challenges, they are eager to learn, grow, and express themselves in a supportive environment.
To help my students succeed, I am requesting bean bags and a printer—two essential resources that will make a lasting impact on their learning.
Bean bags will provide a comfortable, calming space where students can take sensory breaks, engage in quiet reading, or complete activities in a more relaxed setting. Many of my students struggle with sensory regulation, and having a cozy area will help them feel safe and ready to learn. A printer will allow me to create individualized learning materials, visual schedules, communication boards, and adapted worksheets that cater to their needs. Since my students rely heavily on visuals to understand concepts and communicate, a printer will help bring lessons to life in a way that best supports their learning.
My goal is to create a structured yet flexible classroom that meets each child’s unique learning needs. These resources will improve engagement by offering flexible seating options, enhance communication with printed visuals and social stories, and support independence by making personalized learning tools accessible.
