My Project
I am teaching in a Head Start preschool program, with mixed 3s and 4s. We have a daily rest time that lasts for approximately 1- 1.5 hours depending on when students finish up lunch and bathroom time.
My kiddos are fabulous nappers who are learning to self sooth and take a much needed break.
Everyone participates in quiet time and for those that do not fall asleep, we give them books and calming toys (fidgets) to quietly use on their mats until it is time to get up. Students bring blankets from home and we provide rest mats.
I think this time is developmentally appropriate for children for this age. For those that do not sleep, it gives them some down time to recharge before afternoon activities. Included on my wish list are sheets for nap mats, books about resting and nap time. an ambient light, a white noise machine, Squish mellows for cuddling and soothing relaxation toys.
