The students in the 4th grade are all unique. I have had the pleasure of teaching these students since they were in third grade. Many of the students come from low-income homes. Many students receive free lunch and free breakfast each day.
All of the students are excited to enter the classroom each day because I provide great, unique, and individualized learning opportunities in my classroom.
They have their own personalities and really want to thrive throughout the school year. Sometimes the students must take assessments to make sure they are retaining the material that I have taught them throughout whole and small group instruction in reading and writing. To explore reading, they need a comfortable setting. When students can independently pick where to read and have a variety of seat options, it promotes a positive view of reading.
Many students in the grade have specific learning needs. The students can work in solitude without distractions. This will also allow the students to get up out of their seats. The students are in the general education setting. However, I teach the whole 4th. There are students that have specific learning needs. The class size grows each day!
My Project
These bean bags and Soft Seats will help the students make independent decisions if they want to read in their seats or sit in the library to explore the books and selections that are available to them. They can sit with a partner and share what they have read and then be able to turn back to their independent reading and dive in.
They will have options of where to sit and where to go for reading.
I want my love of reading to help them enjoy their books. I think being able to read in an area filled with books will help them because if they don’t like a book they can pick up another.
