My Students
My teaching experience has been of service to Tier 3 schools. Populations consist of 98% or more students receiving free or reduced lunch, with limited English language speaking skills and proficiency reading skills based on the FSA and CELLA formative assessments. Recently, I have been hired at a tier 3 school that has excelled in progressing to a "FF" school to a "C" school based on the 2014-2015 FSA assessment reports.
Inquiry based questioning (Socratic Learning) is a strategy to promote critical thinking for students.
This is professional development is vital in an effort to maintain the sustainability of "C" school. With the collaboration of the literacy coach and teachers conducting a year long Public Learning Community (PLC) on a continual biases. This professional development allows teachers to be exposed to instructional strategies that render critical thinking opportunities to ensure high order thinking on formal and informal assessments that measure proficiency in reading.
My Project
I am requesting professional development binders, dividers and stick notes that will support me in making Socratic Questing workshop meaningful for all of my teachers. The Socratic workshop consists of small groups working on various assignments and activities. The resource materials from this project will assist me how to implement guided Socratic instruction, Socratic inquiry based questions , and daily routines that will support students' academic growth. Through this professional development, I will learn how to develop meaningful questions to foster critical thinking and high order thinking opportunities for every child.
This project will support me in providing meaningful instruction to all of my students during the English Language block.
My students will be better prepared for the upcoming grades if I can help them grasp a better understanding of how to critically think while they are in English language arts classes.
