This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Pre-K students are curious about everything that they see and hear and touch. Pre- K is a great time to mold the children’s minds and encourage them to use their creativity and imagination. I work diligently to provide sensorial experiences for my students to maximize their engagement and learning.
Designing and creating these experiences gets creative when resources are limited.
Play is conducive to a myriad of fundamental learning as character building (being kind and compassionate). This is a challenge when my students' lives are impacted with trauma and fear.
My Project
My pre-K students enjoy playing house and family. Toys that children play with have an impact on their overall development. Dolls in particular have an interesting influence on young learners. Without any prompting children are drawn to models of babies and immediately want to cuddle with the baby doll.
Regardless of gender, children are captivated by playing with dolls.
Furthermore, play is the method by which children learn about the world around them, and practice the skills they will need as they grow up. Playing with dolls actually provide an opportunity to learn important emotional skills. Taking care of dolls strengthens caring and nurturing skills, which are important building blocks of empathy.
Dolls such as the soft Kuddle babies and feelings& emotions dolls can play and imprtant role when a child needs to work through strong emotions as trauma. I want to provide my students with all types of dolls because I believe that making dolls available to young children is a soound strategy to help them acquire and expand the essential skills of caring, nurturing and understanding.
