This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse community of learners ranging from non-English speakers to native English speakers. A large majority of my students come from the China-town borough of Philadelphia, and for some, this is their first time in the United States learning! Those who aren't from China-town, are from the surrounding South Philadelphia area, and we also have a couple of homeless shelters in our catchment, which students often live at as well. My students get to learn in an inclusive and welcoming environment with a great parent support group.
My Project
Currently , we have a team of dedicated girls who have worked their hearts out to create a fun, welcoming, and winning team for middle grades volleyball. I have seen our girls become physically fit as well as more confident in their physical ability. As their coach, I want to also start encouraging younger girls (3rd-5th) to participate in girls volleyball.
In addition to the aforementioned physical benefits of the sport, it also improves the reflexes and hand-eye coordination of the children.
Moreover, being a team sport, it inculcates team spirit in children, which is a great quality for life
