My Project
We are always looking for fun, engaging ways to enhance the social emotional wellbeing of students by way of creative expression. So let’s play with Legos! Building Legos offers so many benefits to our students including improving the cognitive skills of concentration and problem solving. Legos are a great mindfulness activity to help students wind down and gain a sense of calm, all while being screen free and hands-on.
Collaborative lego building is a perfect way for students to practice interpersonal communication skills and foster connection.
Creative outlets like Lego building can be an effective and healthy way of coping with difficult emotions and stressors.
Our School Social Workers will partner with Mr. Perrotti for this unique project. The Social Workers will offer Legos in their offices as a therapeutic activity for students to work on individually or in groups.
Those small builds will then come together to create larger, themed scenes that will be on exhibit in the DHS TV/Media public display case. Additionally, our DHS TV/Media students will have the opportunity to utilize these Legos to create short stop motion films for various media applications. This project is multi-dimensional and will appeal to a wide swath of our students interested in anything from engineering and media arts to self-regulation and increased socialization. This cross curricular project provides a distinctive opportunity to create something that is useful, beautiful and therapeutic all at that same time.
