My Project

Talking and learning about feelings can be hard, especially when you don't know what you are feeling and how to deal with those feelings. However we know when we're playing games; we're almost always having fun and with our friends, so combining feelings with games makes learning about feelings fun. Students are often at their most relaxed and at ease when playing games, both with their peers and with adults, and using games helps kids to explore and learn about difficult topics like their feelings.

Currently, all my students, the 3-year-olds and the 15-year-olds, love playing the few games I do have, and adding new games will give them even more opportunities to have fun will learning feelings, and SEL skills both explicitly and implicitly.

Some games teach students how to identify feelings and emotions or about social emotional topics such as making better choices or sharing, directly as the main goal or theme of the game. Others teach those social emotional skills and emotional regulation through game play, such as learning to take turns, win graciously or deal with the emotions of losing. Both types of games are fun and engaging and enrich students' therapy experience.
