Social Studies via Reading and Exploring

My students need an easel pad, Weekly Readers, kit workers and a digital camera to enrich their knowledge of their neighborhood.

My Students

To a group of 7 year olds, their neighborhood is a big place they may not have ever explored.

My students are a great group of children who are working hard to overcome a very real tragedy in our part of the world.

As a teacher, I am working harder than ever to make school a fun and interesting place to be. Also, this seems like the perfect time to get to know our neighborhood a little better.

My Project

With these resources my students will do many things. First they will read about their world on a level that is meant JUST FOR THEM. Then they will read about all the areas around them and the jobs that their community has. Then they will take a walking field trip and take pictures of the businesses and types of people in their neighborhood.

My students not only deserve but need school to be a place to forget about everywhere else.

They need school to be a fun safe haven. Help me to give that to my kids. School should be a place where every child grows and learns.
