My Project

I am looking to set up some materials to have more hands-on and computer-free warm ups in my social studies class. We typically start class practicing map games on line. I am looking for more ways to have students engage with physical materials and each other. These materials will help set up a series of daily rotating stations. Mapping Mondays, Twos-Day Partner Work, New Country Wednesdays, Travel Thursday and Current Event Fridays. Our class focuses on geography in Europe and Africa, types of Governments around the world, and economics

We have a few map puzzles that students absolutely love to use!

Students have really enjoyed the partner quiz challenge when they name a country and their partner has to map it. It has been a great chance for them to practice skills and work and talk to each other! I am excited to set up a mapping table using the clear white board contact paper where students will get to interact with a blown up map.

Students enjoy using playdoh and ducks to create scenes to show new vocabulary. This year we shared a small set of playdoh to create government scenes. It was a great chance for students to engage with new vocabulary in a way that was creative. It also helped students who are more auditory and kinetic learners interact with the material in a new way.

Finally, I am looking for some materials to help teach types of governments. I would love to use the Weslandia text to open up the door to our "Create a country" assignment. The classroom posters will also act as great visual reminders to the vocabulary we refer to throughout the year. It is helpful to have that sort of language displayed in the room to refer back to throughout the year.
