My Project

This project stems from a personal mission to make social studies an area of inquiry and excitement so that the future generations may learn from the past to better the future! Imagine learning about history not just from books and screens, but by seeing, touching, and listening. That's what these multi-sensory supplies can do for all!

These supplies make learning about complicated topics in history more accessible.

Having the requested supplies will permit me to bring abstract and difficult topics to my students' fingertips (literally). Having visual timelines that illustrate and order the events in history will greatly benefit my students, especially my many multilingual learners! The video feature that accompanies the text will further support multi-media investigations into our history. Having magazines for each student to hold, ingest, and navigate will increase their engagement in social studies as a whole.

Students will be able to interact with maps, further text features, take in more primary and secondary sources, and tackle more hands-on social studies activities. I am eager to bring social studies to life in the classroom. When we use things we can touch and see, it often helps us to understand and better retain what occurred in the past.

Including multi-sensory social studies supplies will ensure that there are multiple access points to the learning and that we may all enjoy studying social studies together.

In short, I am confident that incorporating the desired multi-sensory supplies in my 5th grade social studies classroom will make our learning more interesting, exciting, and increasingly inclusive. I am eager to help my students further connect with history in a way that sticks with them, creating a passion for learning about the past, as they lead us into the future!
