This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

"One team, one dream," the motto that has follow our school for the last several years and this is what our autism programs is all about. My program has been working on providing students with social skills while doing cooking which is a form of art. This form has made students learn the important skills of socializing, communication and using the cooking as a way to be seen.

My goal for this project is to be able to provide students with the necessary tools to learn that art has many forms and functions.

During cooking, students can express our way we feel by making food, communicating to others about what we have done and allowing others to see what we have made. This expresses some of the skills that a student with moderate to severe autism need in order to learn and maintain social skills for life.

Students with autism are students deserve the world because even though they lack some social skills they are amazing students. My students are quick learners who are able to understand that we must learn social skills in order to survive. In this case, students will learn with the form of cooking, communicating and sharing with others what they have create. This will give them a since of pride and will allow them learn a valuable skill while having fun through a very different kind of art.
