My Students
My students are special in many ways. As their speech teacher, I work on improving a wide range of communication skills. My students with Autism have difficulty with social skills. My students with speech delays have difficulty being understood because of their articulation errors. I strive to find interesting and creative ways to motivate my students to express themselves and communicate effectively with those around them.
The students I work with have speech and language differences related to Autism, articulation disorders, attention deficits, or learning disabilities.
As part of the general education setting, I work to address my students’ needs in fun and engaging speech sessions. My students always come to school ready and eager to learn. They rely on me to meet their speech goals and improve their communication skills.
My Project
These social skills materials will directly impact my students’ learning. Social skills can be fun and interactive when presented as toys and games. The Let’s Talk box will help get reciprocal conversations going. The social skills sets will help my students pair text and pictures of real world examples. These materials will facilitate productive speech therapy sessions and help my students reach their speech goals while having fun and interacting with their peers. It is important to me to present therapy as fun and engaging, so that my students are more motivated to meet their individual goals.
