My Students
It is notoriously difficult for students with ASD to acquire social skills that come to many of us naturally. Please help me help them.
I teach in a middle school on Long Island.
My class is considered a career development program. The students in my class can range from 6th-8th grade. The students in my classroom are on the Autism spectrum or have Downs Syndrome. They have hearts of gold and are eager to learn.
My Project
Autism is a condition, present from early childhood, characterized by great difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts. I would like to incorporate this social skills curriculum to help my students learn ways to socialize better with their peers.
Thank you so much for your consideration and donation to my class.
These materials for my class are designed to build stronger communication skills at home, school and in the community. The students will get practice engaging in conversation with peers and adults by addressing statements or asking and answering questions. Some topics include negotiation skills, conversation skills, physical & verbal reactions, friendship, personal responsibilities, greetings, and closure.
