This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 1st graders are thoughtful, loving, curious problem solvers! They love asking questions, writing beautiful stories filled with details and pictures and coming together as a community to solve problems. They come to school everyday eager to learn, teach one another and push themselves to be the very best!
In our classroom, we use restorative practices and Social-Emotional learning to solve problems, put our emotions into words, create tools for coping and most importantly love and support each other.
Our school is in South King County, a diverse and working class community. Many of our students experience a number of challenges. We are richly diverse which makes our learning community even more special and unique.
We utilize a variety of learning strategies that incorporate partner work, storytelling and discussion, centered on our carpet to build connection, understanding and create meaningful and enriching experiences.
My Project
As a young learners, there are many instances, where we do not know how to advocate and mediate problems between each other. Social play is an important aspect building in opportunities for kids to develop vital and important social skills and problem solving.
Through social play, students will engage each other in navigating problem solving by sharing materials, learning to advocate for one another and building important communication skills.
Social play encourages student creativity, critical think skills and imagination. Through the support of materials like building blocks, games and fake food, students can participate and engage in problem solving/ socialization.
