Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a special needs teacher in an early childhood classroom, each of my students are unique in their areas of need, interest, and strengths. My goal is to offer a variety of materials in our play-based classroom for students to use in social situations inside and outside of the classroom setting, such as in small group centers, specific themes, outside play, speech centers, and in their everyday lives.

I can best support my learners by utilizing various materials that will encourage their language and communication, following directions, social and emotional skills, and meaningful connections to those around them.

The dollhouse, furniture, and community helpers will be used for role playing, (Nevada PreK Standards 1.PK.1 act out a role observed in his/her life experiences; for instance, mother, baby, doctor; Nevada PreK Standards 1.PK.2b direct peers and/or follow directions from peers) in creating dramatic play scenarios from experiences. The car carpet with road signage, as well as the pirate ship and vehicles will be used (Nevada PreK Standards 1.PK.6 Use available materials as either realistic or symbolic props as part of dramatic play) to help with understanding types of goods and services around our communities as well as different types of transportation. My students love animals, the animal adventure play carpet will help my students learn about different types of habitats (Nevada PreK Standards L.PK.6 Identify animals and their homes) as well as other observable characteristics (Nevada PreK Standards L.PK.7 Identify and/or sort plants and animals by observable characteristics). My students love to build and explore a variety of ways to build and make things move. The giant pipe builders will allow my students to use their cognitive skills to building a variety of objects (Nevada PreK Standards 5.PK.1b Play in pairs and small groups).
