This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in an urban district where the majority of our students qualify for free and reduced breakfast and lunch. I have a regular education classroom that includes ESL students, Special Education students, and students from a variety of economic backgrounds.
My students come to school every day ready to learn and eager to be engaged.
They put forth their best effort every day and are active participants in their own learning. I am continually looking for new ways to keep them invested in their education.
My Project
These materials will provide a starting point for this year's classroom project - building a classroom library that focuses on social justice, diversity, and equality.
With these books, students can learn about past and current leaders of the civil rights movement, Hispanic poets, and women who are changing the world.
They will have access to these books any time they want to learn more about our world and the people who have created the opportunities my students benefit from - as well as learn how far we have to go and what they can do to make the world a better place.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
