Help me give my students novels centered around themes of social justice issues like racism, sexism, immigration, human trafficking, bullying, and others so they can learn to empathize with others and analyze literature through book clubs.

My Students
I teach juniors and seniors in a rural school district. My students are exceptional in that they primarily take college level English courses as seniors. These students strive to go beyond the basic skills and work toward achieving college and career readiness. At my school, almost one hundred percent of the graduates go on to some kind of college education.
One of the mottos of my school encourages excellence at all levels, and my students achieve academic excellence on a daily basis in my classes.
My Project
My juniors will be participating in their first book clubs this spring. This project will help them understand how reading is a lifelong endeavor, and how to read and participate in meaningful and authentic discussions about literature.
All the books chosen for this project incorporate themes that students find important and relevant in society.
Although my students come from a predominantly white middle class, rural town and school, they still care and empathize with larger issues in society such as sexism, racism, poverty, and bullying. When students read firsthand accounts of these issues, they have a lot to say about the topics. These books will help them learn about and make a personal investment not only in their own future as readers, but also in their future as citizens of the world.
