This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love working with teens! All of my students have a diagnosed disability. The majority have autism. The past two years dealing with COVID 19 and other environmental changes have been stressful. Our class needs to strengthen our social emotional health. So many of my students have five or more risk factors, such as coming from low-income, single-parent households, having multiple disabilities, and being minority students coming from homes where English is not the primary language, so they can come to school stressed.

The materials will make a difference to the social emotional health of at least 20 teens.

Students have time for academics throughout the school day. During our social skills class and study lab, my class needs to learn about feelings and how to cope with challenges. The books will be used to create fun activities to teach about emotions and coping skills. The Lego table will store our Legos and be used for cooperative learning and social skills application. The claw game will give students an incentive to apply what they are learning and to build positive social emotional well being in our classroom. The fidget balls will allow students to release stress and focus on socials emotional health as well as academics.
