Social Emotional Success Equals Academic Success

Help me give my students the tools they need to self-regulate and self-monitor. All items I have requested to help target their educational and emotional needs. If we target those they will be more successful with their peers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students have been identified with academic and social emotional awareness deficits. While each student need is unique, each student strong suit is also what makes them more likely to succeed in the General Education setting with support in and from the Special Education Setting. I will use the tools in my classroom, and then make some available to them in the General Education setting.

All of the sensory tools I have requested are items that my students can use at a special center that I will create for them and their classmates to be able to access when together in the General Education setting.

At the foundation of all student success is the ability to self-regulate, to be self-aware and to then be able to persevere despite emotional setbacks. While my students target specific goals, they are still like their peers in that they need support and necessary skills to work through their emotions, yet still have the high academic expectations. The ability to create a center that will be available to all students makes it so my students can use tools to take a break, and then continue with their academic expectations successfully.

The items that I have requested such as sensory items and laminating sheets to make the steps of self-regulation while in the Gen Ed setting available to them and to all of their peers. This center, while created for my Special Education students will support any other student that may find the items useful to them so that they too can be successful in their academics. Ultimately, academic success is the goal for all students. An equitable education is giving all students they individual tools they need for success. The use of sensory items is a small yet powerful tool to help all my students.
