My Students

Our school is located in East New York, Brooklyn and serves Pre-K to 5th grade. The majority of young learners at our New York City school receive free and reduced lunch. Our first-grade class is made up of 21 goofy, kind, and bright students who come from mostly bilingual homes.

Not only are the students excited to be around, they are also some of the most caring, hardworking and curious first graders who act daily as change-makers, bringing a multicultural lens into the classroom.

As their teacher, I strive every day to motivate my students to achieve their highest potential through music and imagination!

My Project

Students in first grade need to learn courage, kindness, and how to manage their emotions. The characters in these stories will model bravery and self-regulation, as well as address many of the feelings my students experience but may not be able to name.

Through reading, my students will learn to jump like Jabari and to be dear friends to Amos McGee and one another.

Stories are a simple way to demonstrate for students how to act in school: how to listen to their friends, how to moderate their moods, and how to make our classroom community a warmer place. I can't wait to share these sweet books on our classroom rug.
