My Project
My FFCHS AVID freshmen students come from very diverse backgrounds. Many of them have parents deployed or working in the military at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As a part of our curriculum these students are trying to achieve individually and make it to college. On Family Fridays we collaborate as a group in team building exercises that help with social emotional learning as well as mental well-being. We focus on self-care and also stress relieving activities that help them take time for themselves to make sure learning takes place during the rest of the school week. By funding the board games, craft items, coloring pages, jewelry making items, and the knitting materials you will be helping these students in the class that helps them achieve and make up for learning lost during the impacts of interrupted learning which has occurred due to COVID 19 pandemic. Many of these students also struggle with learning due to social emotional events in their lives or because their parents are not home and deployed overseas in the military. In fact, many of the students in this class are minorities and will be the first to go to college in their family. We focus on WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading) to help them build skills lost during the COVID 19 pandemic years. Please fund these important activities to help my students with their mental well-being to help them socially and emotionally this school year and beyond. Thank you!
