This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a school Social Worker in a grade school in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood, supporting students with disabilities and students who are in need of extra social-emotional supports. As a School Social Worker, I work with students who need space to focus on their mental and social-emotional health through talk therapy, art, mindfulness, etc.––in the safety of a school setting.

My Project

In Social Work sessions, students are given space to focus on their mental health, process complex emotions, and identify supports and strategies in the safety of the school setting.

These books will provide students with another means for processing and growing, through seeing themselves represented in stories where the focus is identity, emotional expression, building healthy relationships--among other social-emotional themes.

These stories highlight a diverse range of experiences and backgrounds, for students to see themselves and their lives represented. My hope for this library is to use stories as a tool for students to feel less alone in all that they are processing.
