Social Emotional Learning

My Project

I feel that every child deserves the tools to understand and manage their emotions. In my Kindergarten and 1st Grade Setting 3 Autism Classroom, students need extra support to self-regulate, express emotions, and make good choices. Many students struggle with frustration, anxiety, and communication, making it difficult for them to engage in learning.

The tools I am requesting, such as Calm Strips, the Calm Ball, SEL books, and interactive activities, will provide structured, hands-on ways for students to develop essential coping skills.

The Calm Ball and Calm Strips offer sensory support, helping students manage anxiety and self-soothe in overwhelming moments. The Lakeshore Making Good Choices Match-Ups reinforce decision-making, teaching students about cause and effect in social situations. Books like A Little SPOT of SEL, It’s Okay To Not Be Okay, and Just Now I Feel Angry introduce emotions through relatable characters, making it easier for students to recognize and express their feelings.

My goal is to create a safe, structured learning environment where students can develop self-regulation, improve social-emotional skills, and gain confidence. These tools will help students manage their emotions more effectively, leading to better focus, fewer disruptions, and stronger communication skills.

My students are bright, capable, and full of potential, but they need extra support in understanding and managing emotions. With the right resources, they can learn how to self-soothe, communicate their needs, and build positive relationships. These tools will empower them to succeed not only in the classroom but in life.
