My Students

My students are always excited to learn new things! They are curious and love challenging lessons. I try to implement as much technology as possible. Many don't have these resources at home. In this new world of learning and the many challenges that COVID has brought, I really want each of my students to have tablets in which they can access different apps that relate to social and emotional learning (SEL). Using technology along with utilizing SEL apps, would be very beneficial. SEL is an integral part of education and human development and I feel that there are many apps that can help kids learn coping skills for everyday struggles.

My classroom will consist of twenty second graders who will be eager to learn and explore social and emotional apps using technology!

My school is Title One and every student receives free lunch. Even though some of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds that does not mean that they cannot learn or progress. They just need a little extra push, and people who believe in them!

My Project

My students will use the requested materials of tablets to use apps that support Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Since the students now need to maintain social distancing in the classroom the use of partner work, collaborative groups as well as small groups looks very different. In the past kids were able to sit near one another and work in close proximity. Sadly they are missing out on so many opportunities to socialize like they want to. The stress can be seen in day to day activities in class. By using tablets and various SEL apps to teach different social emotional skills, I feel will help them deal with the stresses that Covid-19 has brought this school year.

Social and emotional strategies can be taught, modeled, and practiced and lead to positive student outcomes that are important for success in school and in life.

It can improve students’ social and emotional skills, attitudes, relationships, academic performance. It can also help to decline students’ anxiety and behavior problems by giving them necessary coping skills. I plan to create a Social Emotional Learning center. There are many apps that deal with Social Emotional learning (SEL). Some that I plan to download and use include Daniel Tiger's Grr-ific Feelings that have songs and activities help kids express, recognize, understand emotions. Calm is an app that teaches relaxation and calming skills to students. Wisdom: The World of Emotions helps students get through the confusing times so they will be able to identify, label, and perhaps manage strong feelings of anger or frustration. Mind Yeti is a calming app with cute characters that helps center kids who needs mindfulness-based approaches. The students in this country need normalcy and routine. Until that normalcy returns, SEL apps on the Kindles can help them cope with our everyday challenges.
