Social Emotional Learning through Picture Books

My students need concrete examples, through literature, to help them work through a wide range of emotions. These books all have social emotional themes.

My Students

Conflict, grief, bullying, self-worth... You name it, I've addressed it this year! With 617 students in my school, there are always lessons to be learned and taught!

A large portion of the students I service were once residents of a housing project, which has since been demolished, scattering our students to multiple areas of Chicago, with the only constant being this school.

We take our job of educating the whole child very seriously.

My Project

Adding these books to the counseling library will help in the creation of lessons regarding these various topics. The social emotional topics that are covered by these texts come up year after year, as many of these topics are tied to adolescent development.

These books and the lessons that will go with them will help students to not only relate to the issues being addressed in the books, but also help them develop a way of thinking about the topics, which will help them in the future.
