This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am moving to an early childhood combination class next year. This year I moved schools and during the move I ended up leaving behind many of my early childhood materials. To support the kindergarten and first graders in my k-1 combo class I will make social emotional learning a priority that we focus on all year. These lessons and conversations will be ongoing throughout the school year. I hope that discussing feelings, how to cope with them, and how to recognize feelings in others will help build a strong set of executive functioning skills among my students. These skills will allow my students to meet academic success, as they'll get along better, relate to one another more, and will be able to choose productive ways to handle problems. I really love Slumberkins because they include a stuffed animal and a story with a theme. The stuffed animal is a character in the story. These stories will help students navigate a variety of themes such as grief, sadness, loneliness, and other challenges that children ultimately face. I appreciate your love and generosity in supporting my class!
