Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach students with disabilities including students with autism, developmental delays, ADHD and learning disabilities.

SPED students often struggle to meet academic expectations and they may become overwhelmed and lose control of their emotions whether due to the frustrations of academic demands or to the nature of their disability.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) allows my students to focus more proactively on nurturing their social/emotional skills. Students who struggle to keep their impulsive behavior under control benefit from SEL by learning how to recognize and control those behaviors. They also learn to practice self-calming techniques, such as mindful breathing. Also, by understanding their strengths and limitations, they are better equipped to ask for help. A Little Spot curriculum teaches children coping techniques and SEL strategies. This curriculum highlights specific strategies and examples so that children can easily understand and in turn, apply to their lives.

The other items in my cart address the sensory needs of my students. Sensory is a large need for children with autism, ADHD, and developmental delays. The students will use these materials and toys to help defuse sensory overload.
