Social-Emotional Learning Infused with STEAM

Help me give my students a chance to improve their social-emotional learning skills with literature and art units that are infused with STEAM learning.

My Project

Gifted learners are often hampered by social-emotional learning concerns regarding risk-taking as they are often perfectionists who don't like taking a chance or being wrong when they attempt new things that may seem difficult. I am working to improve their resilience and risk-taking along with their ability to persist and persevere not only when work in school gets tough, but when life does.

By bringing biographies and art inspired STEAM lessons to my learners in grades 1-6, they will learn to take risks in a low risk setting while having fun with art and science.

Students will also work collaboratively on many of these projects as learning to be open to accept the thoughts and ideas of others is a critical skill gifted learners also often times find themselves struggling with as a social-emotional skill. Covid kept students working independently on paper and pencil tasks, and we've been working hard to build all of the academic and social-emotional skills stronger since we've returned to in person learning.
