This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In the AVID program, not only are we implementing strategies, skills, and knowledge to help students prepare for college, but we are also training their minds to better their social-emotional health. One of the ways we are doing this is having them write their insights into their feelings more. We are having our students write daily intentions in order to accomplish goals. This will allow them to not only have a specific focus in class but also allow them to look inward and decide what they truly want to do with their day.

My goal for this project is for students to make conscious decisions about the person they want to be not only during the class but also through their daily lives.

I encourage students not to limit their intentions for school; I want them to explore their lives through their intentions, whether that includes extracurricular activities, social relationships, or how to deal with conflict in their personal lives. The idea behind the intentions is to have students set themselves up for success in something for the day, big or small, short-term or long-term.

My students are quirky, excitable, and absolutely magnificent! God, I really love these guys! They are quite smart, very silly, and I feel that we make a good team together here in the AVID program. However, I require the ability to give them more avenues of thought and expression. Your support will make a world of difference in the lives of these kids
